Volunteer

Our Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
This mission can only be accomplished through the partnership of volunteers- individuals, churches, community groups, and businesses that believe in the mission and desire to work together to make affordable housing available to local families.
How does it work? Habitat partners with qualified families to not only build a house, but also educate them in important matters like finances and home maintenance. The goal is to help them develop home stability and success as they’re showered with the love of God through our efforts. To this end, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities for you to consider.

Construction

Habitat for Humanity is building houses in Cass County from the ground up. To that end, there is a need for both skilled and unskilled volunteers. If you have experience in various aspects of home construction, we’d love to talk with you about completing tasks that require a higher level of skill as well as potentially guiding small groups of volunteers with less experience.
Unskilled volunteers are also welcome. If you can swing a hammer, turn a screwdriver, and/or brush paint (or are willing to learn to do so), we have tasks for which you can lend a hand. Contact us to find out available workdays.

Non-Construction

Not looking to build a house itself? Have other skills you’d like to share to further the cause of Habitat for Humanity? Check out these volunteer opportunities!

Family Selection Committee

This committee helps select the families that will partner with Habitat to build their house and turn it into a home. Meeting monthly, they review applications and meet with families to discuss next steps. Volunteers need to be discreet as they may will need to protect the privacy of applicants as they go through this process.

Family Support Committee

Habitat for Humanity does more than build houses; we help families build on the foundation of Christ. To that end, volunteers with financial backgrounds are needed to teach courses on financial management. Others are needed to teach homeowners how to maintain their homes. Families also need Family Advocates to mentor them through the process of beginning to own their own house. Talk to us if you’d like to get involved in this process.

Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committee provides the fuel that keeps people going. Whether it’s a work crew at a build site or a special event, this team ensures that meals and snacks are organized to meet the needs of those present. Volunteers help plan, prepare, and organize groups to ensure there is plenty to ensure everyone is well-fed and having a good experience.

Development Committee

Of course, none of the ministry of Habitat for Humanity of Cass County can take place without funding. Volunteers on this committee will help connect with potential donors, plan special events, and explore other ways to ensure Habitat has the necessary funds to accomplish its goals.
